A Small Windscreen Wiper Electrics Problem! Help!
Hey guys,
I was jus driving down the road as you do and i heard a zapping/buzzing in the fuse boxes (or at least sounded like it was down that way) so i pulled over, and it stopped when i did so i couldnt quite tell what the problem was as there was no smoke or damage.
So I pulled away and it buzzed again, then it began to rain so i turned my windscreen wipers on... and basically to cut the long story short, THEY WONT TURN OFF! The buzzing has stopped since i turned them on, but now no matter how much i change the wiper control stick, they constantly go. When i turn on the ignition, they wipe like crazy bastads until i turn it off again.
Jus taken em off and chucked em in the boot atm but would be nice to fix the problem, any one have any suggestions?
Thanks
Alex

Coor blimey annoying problem, don't know why you took the wipers off, you could have just took the fuse out
but erm Dan has a point, try and get a relay from somewhere, even if you just borrow one from someone to see if it solves it then buy one if it does work.

Well as Dan and Nic have both said, check the relay. I had a similar experience when connecting up my spot lights in my grille. When connecting wires to the relay and gettin them wrong there was a buzzing sounds coming from the fuse box. So possibley your relay may need changing.
Also do any of the other fuctions on the same stalk work? As i've been told its a common fault on Pug's and the indicator stalks have crap connections in them.

Cheers guys
Wow thanks for all your quick suggestions, much appreciated!
But, Im not sure if i know how to change the relay, must be a simple procedure but never done it.
And im also not sure which fuse is for the wipers cause no manual came with the motor.
Yeaah bloody useless aint it haha
I know its not much good to you boys but if you still think you can help,
Ooh and any other funtions from the stalk work fine, eccept no matter how 'powerful' i control the wipers to be, they all wipe at a constant fast pace which does not alter.
cheers guys

Dude, Get yourself down Halfords and buy a Haynes Manual. That will tell you everything you need to know about which fuse is for what and how to change Relays to how to change wheel bearings! Its a good book to have! About 20 squid i think!

yeah the haynes manual is definately a good investment! Just make sure you get the correct one for your particular model, ie I assume it's a mk1 106? It'll have step by step guides so it cuts out a lot of messing around and you never know when it'll come
In handy!

ive just got me a haynes manual for my car and im now reading it pretty much whenever im not at work or college!
me and an raf engineer (my missus's dad) have looked at the windscreen wiper issue, NONE of the fuses affect them so theres been a shortcircuit somewhere. Im lookin for the relays and gotta find which one it is, grr what a nightmare... someone give me a new car please, one like nics colt will be fine

relays are easy to change mate even an idiot can do it. pull out the old one and plug in the new one cant get no simpilar. your fuse box covers should even have the drawings of what each fuse is.
